Maybe for these occasions, you could show them a photo on your phone and say that you don't want to participate in THIS ("do you?).
I almost never do. I have such a hard time doing stuff like this, but I need to get over my own fear of alienating/triggering people (or whatever it is, Iām not sure).
(this despite, for many years now, having the urge to ask all the meat-eaters in my life to watch Earthlings as their birthday gift to me)
